Overview
of the Round Table
During
the past ten years, the growth of the Israeli technology industry has
been explosive. Over $2 billion in venture capital money has been invested
in Israeli startups and it is estimated that there are over 3000 startups
currently in Israel. Large companies, such as Intel, Motorola, Cisco, and
Microsoft, have established R&D facilities in the country to take advantage
of the superb technical talent and have also acquired Israeli companies to
enhance their technological portfolios.
While all
of this activity points to the development of one of the great technological
centers in the world, innovative enterprises in Israel still face numerous
hurdles. One major challenge is to find the optimal blend of entrepreneurship
and management in Israeli-based firms. Another related major challenge is
developing the appropriate human talent.
This Workshop
explores these two key challenges. Using live case studies, and drawing on
the insights of experts from Israel as well as the United States, we will
take a sophisticated in-depth look at such issues as:
- What is the role
of the professional manager in the development of high-tech
Israeli start-ups?
- Does building
a successful enterprise in Israel require new managerial
competencies?
- What is the
best strategy for nurturing relevant human talent in
Israel?
- What are the
proven organizational approaches for developing innovative
Israeli enterprises which can effectively compete in
a global marketplace?
- Can Israeli
high-tech firms evolve into modern professionally managed
enterprises?
