PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
This event will focus on Creating Secondary Mortgage Markets In Emerging Countries--Risks And Opportunities: Launching An Israeli Secondary Mortgage Market as a Case In Point. Among the overall topics discussed are the following:
- identifying key variables for starting such an initiative in an emerging country,
- delineating the existing means of support for US investors for such an endeavor,
- outlining a specific plan for launching and implementing successfully a secondary mortgage market in Israel.
This Round Table comprises two sessions. The first session deals with relevant general concepts and trends in secondary mortgage markets in emerging countries, in relation to the terms and means of launching such an initiative. Broad issues to be addressed in the first session include:
- Review of the current position of secondary mortgage markets in emerging countries.
- Basic terms and background for launching a secondary mortgage market in an emerging country
- Characteristics of a possible venture for launching a secondary mortgage market in an emerging country
- Role of the Overseas Private Investments Corporation (OPIC) in such an undertaking and possible support that OPIC can provide for US investors who invest in mortgage lending in emerging countries.
The second session of this Round Table focuses on a specific country, Israel, mainly through an introduction of a proposed business plan. Broad issues to be addressed in the second session include:
- Review of the current economic situation in Israel with a focus on the housing, capital and mortgage markets.
- Implementation of the conclusions of the first session, while planning a secondary mortgage market in Israel
- Presentation of a specific business plan to launch a secondary mortgage market in Israel.
